October Weekend Workshop - Natural Dyes & Eco Printing with Sydni Gause

US$350.00
Sold Out

Saturday and Sunday, October 5th + 6th, 10am-3pm

Do not miss the opportunity to work with a special guest and expert on natural dyes and eco-printing - Sydni Gause!

This workshop will be an introduction to natural dyes, shibori, and eco-printing for fabric and textiles.

On the first day students will learn about natural dyes found in nature (utilizing the Buchanan Arts Community Garden), ethical foraging practices, and diverse dyeing techniques. Students will practice these techniques on one large cotton shawl, one medium cotton bandana, and one small 21”x21” satin silk.

Day two will focus exclusively on eco-printing, the process for achieving photorealistic botanical prints on fabric. Students will discuss eco-printing foliage and flower options, and how to format them onto fabric to create a lasting print and design. Then, students will create their own eco-print design on one 35x35” satin silk scarf, leaving class with a beautiful silk scarf that's dyed entirely using locally grown botanicals.

There’s something special about using plants to dye fabric. It connects you to the land, the plant, and a process that’s been practiced throughout history. I dye for so many reasons, but above all its because it has taught me to be slow and thoughtful. - Sydni Gause
